Subject: Re: Oil drain plug now with heli-coil
Comments: To: Chris Radcliffe <chrisr_vanagon@MINDSPRING.COM>

Same for me, the oil drain plug is somewhat fragile, my van as 140k km and it was strip for a long time before I decided to drilled and tap a new heli-coil.

The new heli-coil started leaking after only 5000km!!! I remove the heli-coil and put a new one with a LOCKTITE product and it still leak a bit today. The solution is to apply a small coat of soft silicone on the drain plug each time I do an oil change.

Be very careful when tightening the bolt.

Regards, Ben
