We drink from ours all the time.
We also drain it after use, and sanitize it before using (LIKE THE
INSTRUCTIONS SAY TO).
But I'm also the guy who eats cookies or such after they fall on the
ground, and I don't always wash veggies from the garden, so take my
advice with a grain of sand.
I'm sure my immune system is functioning, I test it daily,

Correct on the water Tim. Bring bottled spring or that which you make
potable at home. I often carry one of those 10 gal (I make sure it is
potable clean). plastic water containers and fill it when I get into the
area of my trip destination, along with filling the Westy's water
supply.
Use the 10 for drinking. Sounds like you can plug the fridge in when you
arrive, and use the battery on the drive there.

I am planning to take my three little children camping and canoing in
about
two weeks. I haven't used the appliances yet since buying the Westy
(except
at the time of purchase). I will be going to an area where there is
electrical hook-up. How cold should I expect the refrigerator to be?
Certainly this thing isn't going to make ice yet it should keep milk
cold,
no?
also I assume it is best to bring water and not drink from the sink
(only
dish washing?).
