Hi Blake, I love a mystery!!! If the pushrods are centrally seated(see Bentley caution) in the lifter and rocker arm, no "adjustments" are necessary. If anything, an unloaded lifter might open and leak down creating tapping noises on start up. A lifter would hardly pump itself full during the procedure you discribed. You say no compression but could you have disturbed something like the distributor Hall sensor plug? Regards, John
