If the car has always been in California the DMV site on the internet will show you the place where the mandatory smog tests were done. This unfortunately will not give you the mileage at the tests but may help to know where the car was from and start the Columbo-style investigation. www.smogcheck.ca.gov You need to type in the VIN or the license plate so have that handy.
