Pilot Bearing! Dennis -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of John P. When stopped, vehicle in any gear, clutch pedal on the floor, I get a loud, low frequendy rumble from the rear of the van. This is a much lower frequency noise than the whine of a bad throwout bearing. Place the van in neutral and the noise stops. Shift into gear and it starts again. Rev the engine and it gets louder but doesn't change pitch. Let the clutch out and the noise gets louder briefly as the clutch engages, then stops when the clutch is fully engaged. Come to a light, step on the clutch without shifting into neutral and the noise starts again, sometimes immediately, sometimes not for a few seconds. Other than this the van shifts and drives normally. Any ideas? John Flaherty Portland, Maine '84 GL |
