IMO, that is the bare minimum using only light truck tires, and I'd be reluctant to go with it even if you never exceed the bus' rated load capacity stated on the driver side doorjamb. If you go with a 27x8.50 LT, you get 1521 lbs capacity and a 95 LI, giving you some margin. I got a set of no-names manufactured by Kelly-Springfield from a local corner tire store for $58 apiece that I'm very happy with.
