Should be - it could be an oil cooler out of a
different year / model VW or Audi.  They have had
pretty much the exact same design cooler on all pre-93
4 cyl gas engines.

Is there any way you can get in there and pinch off
the flow before disconnecting the hoses?  vise-grips
or some clamps?
