If you haven't used the fridge, get to know its operation NOW in the driveway, before you are relying on it to keep food cold. It works great, but you don't want to learn its eccentricities in the hinterlands.

Prechill it with frozen 2-liter bottles. Pre-chill your food. 1-liter olive oil bottles (washed out) fit the door nicely with Milk, Juice, V8, Gin; or all 4. Once set up, use the Propane setting, it is the coldest (IMO), the 12v is only good when you are driving, and will drain you battery else wise.

If some of you meal are convenient to freeze (like Chili) freeze them into a shape that will fit the top shelf of the fridge... it will keep things cool as it thaws.

Or if you are going someplace cold to camp, ignore all this, and just keep the food in the fridge, and leave the windows open. :)

I am planning to take my three little children camping and canoing in about two weeks. I haven't used the appliances yet since buying the Westy (except at the time of purchase). I will be going to an area where there is electrical hook-up. How cold should I expect the refrigerator to be? Certainly this thing isn't going to make ice yet it should keep milk cold, no?

also I assume it is best to bring water and not drink from the sink (only dish washing?).
