The original factory speakers fit into a molded plastic "cup" in the moisture barrier, under the door trim, for this very reason. Ideally, replacement speakers should be protected the same way. Better yet, put them in the original factory speaker location, since "just above your knees" is the ideal spot for good sound quality, according to Blaupunkt's website.

Ok.here is my first contribution to the list. I bet that I will be asking for more info than I will be getting.

I pulled the custom install front door speakers from my 84 camper and turns out both were "corroded" through. I guess the vent system on these rigs runs a constant stream of air through the door and "eats away" at the speaker material. I think that I will install baffles on the back of the speakers (Crutchfield sells them) to help protect them.

Anyway if you are thinking of ripping off the map pouch on the drivers door and installing some rad 6" speakers, consider dealing with this.
