Hi all,

Now that I'm moving forward on my brake issues
I've got a second question....

When I start out in my '80 Vanagon (4 speed manual) it is sometimes
difficult to get power starting from a complete stop until I get going
a few miles an hour and the RPMs go up some and, later, at the high
end....top of third or fourth....trying to pass or gain speed at high
RPM.

I had some work done by a mechanic to something else and asked him to
check it over....he said something was frozen in the distributor and
it needed to be pulled to fix it.  I was skeptical because he charged
me too much for what he fixed and listed a number of other things
wrong that weren't that serious but he had a big estimate to fix them.

Is there a spark advance or something that should be operating that
might cause my power issues?

It runs fine in all gears but I don't have much ability to pass.
