Thanks to all who educated me about the water tank. I left a solution of bleach and water in the tank overnight, drained it, scrubbed the inside and hosed it out with the drain plug off.

A plastic hose connector from Home Depot that has the shut-off valve was the perfect solution for the under the sink missing cap. No dangling cap with the retainer strap-- just a lever to open and close it: Perfect! and only 95 cents.

For anyone interested, the vent tube which was black with God Knows what, I removed the clamp, and made a "Q" tip out of a bit of paper towel and a coat hanger, dipped it in bleach and cleaned it out. I cleaned the white elbow with "Q" tips and reassembled the tube. I replced the clamp with a small hose clamp. Good as new.

I had to prime the sump tube to get the water to flow to the sink by blowing a mouth full of water into it. Is there an easier way to prime the pump?
