You want the Bently Vanagon manual that covers all Vanagon 1980-1991 air-cooled, diesel and water boxers; 2 wheel drive and syncro. The really nice thing is it covers the diesel engine really well. It also covers the camper things like the fridge and other camper specific items. An invaluable addition to the serious vanagon owner. Here it is- "the VW bible" http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=vv91 It says $99.00 but I'm sure I paid less than that. I'm sure someone else out there knows where to get one at a price.
