Yes. But there is another alternative. I import the British produced Pocket Mechanic manual for $16.95 (part number 2948) that covers the diesel Vanagon. Unlike the aforementioned Haynes manual, which would only cover the engine that's in a diesel Vanagon, this one covers the entire Vanagon.

The Bentley is far more complete than either the Haynes or Pocket Mechanic manual (although it's also a bit more complicated, as it is written for professional mechanics whereas the other two are aimed at backyard mechanics). I sell it for $63.61 with listmember discount (part number VV91).

Optimally you want one of each, as the former is easier to follow for simple repairs (and also fits in your glovebox), but cannot compete with the latter in terms of depth.
