JC Whipme and many RV/Propane places sell a thermo-sensative strip which
can give you some idea of the fullness.  You adhere it to the end of
your tank (the flat-ish part closer to the rear wheel) and when the urge
strikes you to know how much propane you have, you warm up some water,
and pour it over the strip.  The area above the "propane line" turns one
color, the area below stays cool, and turns another color.

Since our tanks are not in any position to do this easily, I'd consider
all of the above a big fat waste of time. Simply have a vacuum pulled on
your tank (to remove air and moisture) then have it filled. Use it for
three, 3-day camping excursions, then have it re-filled. Doing this,
I've never had more that a couple gallons go in.

tank?  I knew mine was empty as the stove no longer worked and it took

4 gallons.  However, I've no idea how long that will now last and would
