Subject: 2.5L 120HP waterboxer.....that runs on 91 octane......90mm stroke
by 94mm bore....and pases smog...hmmm?

Attention gearheads,
I've been looking at the tech articles and have yet to find how VW was able
to achieve a 27 HP increase
with just 200 cc's and 7mm of crank......did the cam change?.......Is the
Digifant a better FI systemfor producing HP?.....Is the distributor advance
curve better?.....compression jumped from 7.3:1 to 10:1?....what sort of
octane do the euros have for premium? 98?
Here is the BIG question, If a person was to put a 76mm crank and 2.1L
pistons and liners in their
1.9L case.......Would you get the same amount of HP w/ digijet as you would
with a stock 2.1L with digifant.......
(95 HP in the US.....112HP in europe w/ 10:1 CR )....or would the whole
ignition and FI have to be swapped over to Digifant achieve those numbers?
Are the European DJ ( 10:1) pistons and liners difficult to locate and are
they relatively the same price as a set of US spec 9:1 Mahle's?
Do they require an octane higher than 91 RON?
I am told that the Spanish AMC heads are excellent castings, but the intake
valve guides are too short, prone to premature valveguide wear and have to
be replaced
The valves I'm told are fine.......but I'm wondering....sodium valves?....or
would that be a waste in a water cooled
So here is the check list
1) rebuilt motor---$1600-1900---w/ new heads, new lifters, oil pump,
reground crank, rg cam
2) counterweighted 76mm crank.....$150 extra.......balanced crank, flywheel,
pistons, pulley, pressure plate $150 extra
3) big valve heads----$900 extra....I think I'll pass on that one......would
be nice.....Chevy valves
4) 2.2L upgrade.... $250 extra .......sounds good.....but it's hard to find
good pistons without too much piston taper
5) ported intakes ? $
wishlist
82 mm crank from Demello---$500
82 x 94 mm Mahle pistons and liners $2000.........BUT I will find custom
pistons from J and E for much less....just need specs......$360-500
maybe a 90 X 94mm setup.......custom pistons would run around
$360-500.........that would bump the cc's to 2.5 liters....WOW!...
90mm crank is available from Bob Demello.......fits right in too
100mm pistons? don"t know....but the barrels could go to 96.5mm...and the
pistons could too,,,,,,,
Anyway....Ideas flying around my head...........torque torque,
torque..........like a tractor baby.......that's what we really need
