Just wanted to share this overheating solution to some of you engine coversion folks out there. Well, this is one solution anyway. BenT >>>>>>email excerpt>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hey, Ben I am at the end of my trip: (in China now ) : 10 months, 12 countries, 22 planes and 27 borders is enough for this time ; Stupid as it sounds, I am missing working on my syncros. Back in B. the 4/4. I am not surprised that your friend's vanagon with the Subaru engine is overheating ; The solution exist, though: He has to change the "tunnel" (the front¢ral part of the floor) and put one of a TD: Check on your TD and you will see right away why: It is wider, and much more incline, allowing for a much better airflow through the radiator, and also a bigger fan with a 500watts motor. It's a whole day job, though. Taking the lights, radiator,...off, cutting the old small tunnel, plus a part of the floor, rewelding the TD one, and replace the radiator ...Of course the carpet is different too. But he will never overheat anymore. I did this modification many times (every time I put a TD engine in a Transporter not equipped with it stock.) I saw a few Syncros in Thailand (but no westy); in fact, I thing I saw at least one syncro in every country I have been (in Asia) ,even in Myanmar, or Laos... <snip> BenT |
