Subject: Rewiring bell/ringer, 90 Vanagon GL
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Is it possible to rewire the bell/ringer ? I would like for this ringer to not ring in the usual situations, at start up and when the key is in the ignition and the driver-side door is open, but instead I want it to ring only when I have left my lights on and the engine has been cut off. I need to have some indicator to warn me that my lights have been left on, I don't need to hear an annoying bell every time I start the van or whenever I open the door while the key is in the ignition.

If anyone has experience with this then I'd appreciate hearing your opinions. I'm a bit leary of getting into this sort of customization of the electrical system so if I can be reassured that this can be done without messing things up then I may go ahead and have someone attempt it for me.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

-James
