James, you asked, << Is it possible to rewire the bell/ringer ? I would like for this ringer to not ring in the usual situations, at start up and when the key is in the ignition and the driver-side door is open, but instead I want it to ring only when I have left my lights on and the engine has been cut off. >> The easy way is to just remove the O.E. chime and get a piezoelectric buzzer from Radio Shack for a headlight alarm. Inside the fuse box, I strapped a buzzer between the license plate lamp fuse and the windshield wiper fuse. I kept the chime, but cut and taped the grey wire in the driver's side door switch. That allows me to leave a key in the ignition while camped, without the bother of hearing the chime whenever the door is opened. With a bit of duct tape over the sound holes in the chime, I barely notice it on startup. The door switch still operates the dome light, even with the cut off wire.
