My experience with VW I-4's is different. Growing up, my family had one GTI, one Golf, and one Jetta. My dad changed the oil with Mobil 1 on one of the cars about every other weekend (he was a fanatic). All the cars were driven by idiotic teenagers, and all the motors far outlasted the cars, going to 150 - 200,000 miles before the rest of the car started falling apart. The engines were still in as-new condition.
