I just signed back on after being off on a camping trip (see my report), and saw a couple of msgs re all of the problems and Vanagon reliability issues. I have had mine ('90 Westy with 142K miles) since new. It is my only vehicle. It has gone on lengthy trips all over the Western US and never once broken down or left me stranded, unless you count a broken power steering belt which was quickly fixed. I do have the advantage of having had it since day one and I practice serious preventative maintenance. If they would import the South African Vanagon, I would be first in line with my checkbook.
