I've heard stories about these guys, and one of my friends decided not to listen to my advice and bought a type 2 motor from them.....a turn key... Well, when he got it the sheet metal was tweeked, some missing, the linkage was out of tune, the fuel lines kinked, one exhaust stud was too long where you couldn't tighten down the heater box before you ran out of threads on the stud, the oil breather line wasn't connected to the air filter and there was no where to plug it into either. He took it back and they fixed all of the stuff, then I tried syncing the carbs.....couldn't do it!.....and I have a Weber redline airflow gauge....from when I had squarebacks and 914's. Anyway, I couldn't sync the carbs if my life depended on it.......he took it to a shop in the San Fernando Valley......."Just Volkswagens"......Jim the guy who owns the shop is a nice neurotic kind of guy who used to work on stars 356's and spiders in Topanga Canyon in the 60's.....anyway he couldn't sync the carbs either.....he marked the case, so that if the case was split by GEX, that we would know it. My friend returns the engine to GEX.....gets it back, a week later the case had been tampered with.....my guess is that the cam timing was off by a tooth or two. So, watch out for those guys......bad news.....I would reccomend Conemac, Fast German, Boston Bob......anybody but them at GEX

Tony
