I spend yesterday removing the rear heater entirely to free up some storage space. I have the post mortem photos here:

I ended up disconnecting the front heater in anticipation of replacing the heater hoses. I bypassed the heater loop by disconnecting the thermostat heater hose at the "T" and connecting it directly to the coolant distributor . Had to add a little coolant to the overflow tank, but everything is working again. And, no, I won't need the heater any time soon, it seems that summer has arrived here already.

If anyone is interested in the rear heater unit with cover, let me know. It's in great shape, I used it once, and I don't think the original owner knew how to turn it on.
