I found an interesting site related to our emails a coupel of weeks ago:

I am having trouble navagating the site, but it appears that this guy (company) came up with a method for running a vehicle strictly on vegetable oils without the mixing process.  Relatively reasonable, too (about $800 for the kit).


He even has testimonials, one of which is a Vanagon Westy owner in CA (Jason Sebastopol).  I don't know if he's a member of the group.  I checked the archives and couldn't find any references.


Even for the added headache of settling tanks and filtering, if you don't have to mix the lye and methanol, it would be easier and cheaper, and better for the environment.


I'm going to check this guy out get more info.  Anyone else interested in knowing more?  If so, email me and I can p-mail you back rather than bombard the list...
