william, good question. not much chlorine bleach (generic w/o scents and crap) is needed. I would suspect a cap full would be sufficient. THEN after it has sat for a few minutes (and you ran it through the faucte a few times too), drain the bleach solution rinse and flush with tap water. After majority of the chlorine is gone (after one or 2 rinses) add some hydrogen peroxide (available where you get your bandaids and rubbing alcohol) to react out the chlorine that is left. Then rinse a few more time and you are set to go. I use this method to clean out water bottles that i bring on multiday mountainnering trips. It is also a safe and cheap way to purify water of giardia, but don't trust me on that last account. i don't want to be blamed for your missery....

btw, you could also add a tad of chlorine bleach to the water and not even worry about rinsing it and just drink it..B.
