Where I've found a bit of lubricant to be the most beneficial is in the cup at the end of the linkage. If your shifting improves dramatically after hitting a puddle, this is where you need lubricant.

If you're gonna do the job, you might as well catch all of the locations, doncha think??

The shift bushing above the gas tank is where you need to get the grease. It is easy with the tank removed-I haven't tried to do it with the tank in-it looks difficult. You will be amazed how your shifting improves by greasing this bushing.

My manual trannie shifter squeaks and squeals when I shift. Sounds dry as the Sahara in there.

Can I re-grease the ball joint on the stick shift where it goes through the floor without disassembling the shift linkage and mechanism and therefore having to readjust the shift linkage?

Can I just pour some oil down there instead of using the grease? I works great when it rains, telling me that water sprays up and "lubes" it.

I think readjusting the linkage is beyond what I have time or inclination for now. Paying someone isn't my preference either.
