Ken,

If we are talking about the same company in California, I'd be curious to see how folks fell about the referee thing. You would have to declare that your vehicle is COMPLETELY reconstructed. Just like a kit car. That means you have to go through the BS of doing lights and other crap via other inspection stations at additional cost. You would also move yourself into the arena of 2002 emissions. Your vehicle as of date of manufacture moves to the new date when you supposedly perform the reconstruct. That means you may be subject to emissions inspections 25 years after 2002 instead of your vehicles original build date. Sure there is no inspection of diesel powered passenger vehicles in California now but that is not necessarily going to be always the case. I don't believe Cali authorities will allow this engine conversion unless you go to the reconstructed vehicle route.

If you read my forwarded post this morning, you will notice that there will probably some cooling issues with the use of a diesel in a vehicle originally gas powered. If cooling for diesels was not an issue, I don't think VW's engineers would have created in the more cavernous cooling tunnel up front for diesels. Ya know what I mean?
