Yes you can replace just the valve. I have these for $35 plus the o-ring ($2.50). The rear core does not come with this valve (the on/off valve) it only comes with the small plastic bleeder valve (I have cores for $70). It is hard to tell if your valve is leaking or the core without taking everything apart. At that point you might want the new parts around to put it back together (why take it apart again?).
