<< 1. What about throttle and tach operation? I know that some of the later model VW TDi motors use "drive by wire" accellerators, right? (Potentiometers).>>

Several people have addressed this before in the past. You would need to use a converter on your alternator to give the tach a place to get an electrical pulse. Dakota Digital sells an interface. of you go out and try to find a super rare Vanagon Diesel tach. Or convert from some other diesel VW.

<< 2. What about power steering, AC, cruise control? >>

I'm curious about these things as well. None of the conversions I've seen had AC, PS or Cruise.

<< 3. Ground clearance for a Syncro? >>

I've seen one. Ground clearance is identical to my factory 1.6TD in my 16" Syncro. Deck height was a teensy bit of a problem on vans and Westies. No problem on Dokas and single cabs. Got that silencing capsule around my engine which these things will not come with. It's basically a steel box integrated into the skidplates. factory stuff.
