Definitely true. For comparison purposes, record temperature, make certain
tire pressures are the same as any previous trials and weigh the vanagon. If
you know the mass, or duplicate your previous mass, you can calculate true
horsepower. Your numbers will be good to 1 to 5% (absolute) depending how
careful you are, so an error in mass of 1% would not be too significant. So
reproduce the van loading by +/- 20 pounds. In other words don't do the
pre-lilley run with a buddy in the passenger seat, and the post-Lilley run
with ego as your only companion. BTW, in the LA area a set of 3 dyno runs can
be had for as little as $50 (with a VW club dyno day).
