John,

I ran this procedure a few months ago and posted the procedure to the list. Check the archives for my complete rundown. On my Vanagon, I had to purchase both new bulbs and bulb holders (sockets) from the local VW dealer. The old sockets did not work with the new bulbs that the dealer provided. Other posts to this list correctly describe the procedure to remove the shifter housing. Do not tighten the shifter "T" handle too tightly when reinstalling or it will rattle when you drive.

Other than that it is an easy and straight forward Saturday morning project. Enjoy.
