Gordon, I know others have already given you some good advise on checking your vehicle, so here's my $0.02 worth. You definitely need to change the tranny fluid and flush the case. Refill it with Redline MT90. It is a very fine synthetic transmission fluid, holds up extremely well, and will eliminate some hard shifting problems that seem to be inevitable with the manual tranny.
