Hi Brian,

As far as which one is + and - it really doesn't matter except that all the
speakers should be wired the same, or else the sound will be off.  A couple
way to check it out.

        1) on later models the spade terminals that fit onto the speaker are
different sizes so it will be extremely difficult to mix them up.

        2) take a 9 v. battery and wire it up so you can touch the speaker leads
and observe the cone's movement.  Hooked up one way will cause the speaker
cone to draw in and hooked up the other way the cone will move outward. now
just make sure all speakers are wired the same so the movement is in the
same direction (same polarity)

I'm replacing my rear 4" speakers (because I removed the A/C).  The new
speakers have a (+) and a (-) connection spade.  How do I know which wire is
(+) ?  Is the (-) a ground wire? Will you burn something out if you get it
wrong?

PS - Will a 5.25" speaker produce better or more sound than a 4" speaker
given the same input?

As you can tell, this design engineer - carpenter - teacher knows squat
about
electronics...
