Subject: advice needed regarding decoupler and differential lock install
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

hi all, i'm about to send my syncro vanagon off to get the transmission rebuilt and the mechanic i spoke to mentioned some options i could add to my vanagon at the rebuilders.

first was getting a decoupler and the other was getting a locking differential.

any thoughts or opinions on whether i should get these extras added?

the mechanic said the benefit of the decoupler would be if i drive the van hard and if i take sharp turns often(thus engaging the syncro system). I live in sf and am always doing sharp uturns on the streets when looking for parking and such.

I also drive up to tahoe in the winter and down to death valley, black rock etc. not sure if i really need the locking differential or not.

thanks for any advice on the two options.

ki
