I drove my '87 Wolfsburg from New York to Arizona 2600 miles and the only thing I did before I left was to check my tire pressures. I had previously had the engine and auto trans rebullt and the fuel hoses replaced. Shortly after I arrived in AZ, a coolant hose burst (it has been rubbing against something). If my journey had been 3000 miles, it would have happened on the trip. So definitely, check all the coolant hoses. Go on a 100 mile 'trial' journey and see if any problems become apparent. Take a few vital spare parts, the list will advise what. A Ford could break down just as easily as a Vanagon. - David ('87 Wolfsburg)
