its a syncro. the SA caravelle/vanagon bodied vans have different sheetmetal on the bodies than the german made vanagons. so they have a round rear gas port rather than a square one like on the german made vans. there is no ridge above the beltline like on the vans made in germany.. and the SA side middle and rear windows are bigger. the only body part that seems to be the same as the german made vans, is the rear hatch. chris
