the noise: a few options. 1 is an exhaust system that goes forward about 6' and then back and exits behind the drivers rear wheel. More details can be found on tom carrington's web page somewhere! The second option, more of the brute force option is to install sound dampening under the back seat, rear deck, deck lid, air intake, air filter housing and snorkel piece. I'll do the former once my old muffler rusts out and the latter once it is warm enough in Idaho to roll out the stuff. The cyclic idle crap can be a few things. One is a legacy from your injection system being incorrect. You really need an A2 fuel injection rail, injectors and regulator... Or it can be because the timing if off a tad. If you are using the vanagon;s injectors and regulartor w/ the dorky fuel rail, then you have the incorrect set up. WHY? The vanagon fuel pressure regulator is too low for these engines. IIRC 45 psi is what the system would rather have. I purchased a used A2 rail/injectors and regulator from wolfsport in berkeley CA for $60. One of these days i'll slap that rail in. I have the cyclic idle too. i won't change the timing or the ecu till i change the injection system to the CORRECT one. All of this could have been avoided is the seller of these engines knew what the heck he was doing....
