Dear Volks,

Speaking of modifications/desecrations etc...

Yikes!  I spaced out earlier this afternoon and nearly ran my fuel tank bone
dry.  Luckily, it wasn't too far from a gas station ~ 1/2 mile.  This event
leads me to ask the following:

Do any of the vanagon models offer a low fuel warning lamp?

If not, I'm tempted to either:

1) pay closer attention to the gauge
-or-
2) (better- since I know myself well enough) Build a custom circuit with a
super bright led that offers plenty of warning.  This could utilize a
separate sender in the fuel tank (perhaps similar to the type used in the
water tank on the Westy, but obviously fuel proof).  Or perhaps something
commandeered from another VW in a junkyard.  This would also provide
a redundant circuit in case the primary fuel gauge and/or sender failed
before one journeys off into the middle of God's country.
