Try 40 weight. Should make a big difference. I know I'm going against the flow here, but if you look at your owners manual, lighter oils are only good for around 60 or 70 degrees. the chart only goes to 100! When my '85 had as many miles on it as you have, I used either straight fifty or even 60.
