JB Weld sounds great.  I will be in the process of resealing both my
1.9L heads as I have one on the passenger side that has taken a dump so
I have opted to do both.  Can someone elaborate on the JB Weld
application, for instance- 1) application 2)sanding down process
3)pitfalls to avoid. I think this is a great, inexpensive fix that seems
to be a winner.  Any more info would be great list! Thanks!

Last year I had to replace one head so I resealed the other while I was
at it.  I used JB Weld to level the pits where the rubber gasket fits
between the head and the water jacket.

No problems so far and I continued to use van as a daily driver
throughout the winter (Northern Maine).  I have also made three trips to
southern Virginia (approx 1300 miles one way) maintaining "Uneconomical"
speeds.
