First, adjust your rear brakes, incase the stock adjusters are not working or are missing. Then, if problem still persists, bleed your brakes. Only if the above do not fix the problem, I'd replace the MC.

Chris.

Hey folks!

Well, now that the engine is running nice and smoothly, I've been looking at other issues with our 83 Westy. We are having a peculiar brake problem, that I believe is the master cylinder, but wanted to throw it out for you folks to refute or confirm.

Here are the symptoms:

If you press the brake pedal quickly, brakes work great. If you press the pedal slowly, it will slowly go all the way to the floor. If you press them quickly and hold them, the pedal hlods firm, it does NOT slowly give way. There are no visible signs of brake fluid leakage anywhere; however, I have not yet removed the rear drums for a closer inspection.

I'm thinking its the master cylinder. What do folks think?

Z
