Good day Bob Every Vanagon owner is a bit crazy, that why it fun to have one. When I bought mine it was mostly for my girlfriend, I was looking for a F*rd or a C*evy… I fell in love with the damn machine, period.

I beat all the post above with a 10500 miles (not KM) trip last summer across USA & Canada; similar to the one you are talking about, NO MAJOR problem. I have to say that I was a bit lucky (see my engine page & horror story), but luck is on your side when you own a Westy, everybody is you're friend…

Take the chance, if you're stuck somewhere, it's gone be a good way to have fun with you're family.

One of my friend just left Canada for a 3-month tour of the US & Canada in an 86 GL, he bought the van 2 weeks before leaving, we fix a few thing and he was gone. He is now in New Olean (he was born there) and he had only 1 small problem in heavy trafic with the front radiator thermo switch, this was fix in an hour. (I help him trough a web page) http://pages.infinit.net/engine/bob.htm And everything is fine now, is heading out for Texas Saturday.

Good luck to you my friend
