Hi Philippe,

Mile on the engine... I've been through three engine on my 90 GL... they only last about 110,000 miles.

Gas gauge.. you may have a bad sending unit or bad gauge. From experience (last Friday) when the gauge reads empty its empty (first time; over 25 years of driving). And they shouldn't move much, I can get mine to move going around a big freeway cloverleaf (a good 10 seconds in a hard fast turn)

... why so many Vanagons have a rebuiklt engine.

Before my Vanagon, my car was an '87 Golf GTI 8v, and after 130K miles, mostly city, and nasty canadian winters, it has yet to require anything close to a rebuilt engine. In fact, I had never heard of rebuilding an engine (I knew *about* it, that it was possible, but I had not heard of it done to any car I looked at) until now.

Or does it only start around 150K???

Oh, and here's another one: what is it with the Vanagon gas indicator? Why does it move around so much and why does it indicate empty when I still have 3 gallons?

Thanks,

Philippe
