Subject: Emergency - Mystery Part Identifcation Needed!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi All,

In order that I can continue to take apart my 1987 2.1 GL (MV Motor) I need a bit of help on a "mystery part"

http://www.fishforms.com/vanagon/mysterypart.htm

I am behind the throttle and trying to get that last nut free, to remove the entire air intake / fuel line system. Everything comes off nice and easy except the last nut (of course). I cannot get a socket onto it, as this "Mystery Part" is in teh way!

It seems to be a hard plastic boot, of sorts, which seats directly in the engine block, and points back towards the starter... although I see nothing coming out on that side.

It continues to the alternator, and ends in a strange plug, attached to the side of the alternator having 3-pins... and a cap, which was closed. Makes be believe that it is not being used.

The only thing I can guess at is taht it might have had something to do with the aftermarlet cruise control which is long since gone... but I cannot work until it is dealt with.

The cap has the code on it:

SME 001 915

Please... please help me! I want to get this finished before dark, so I can bring it inside and play with it all night!

Thanks!

RSF
