Why is this so? Even safer, I think. In typical (frontal) worst-case
(big bang theory) accident, infant is forced deeper into his seat,
not launched out of it.


Am I missing something? If you're speaking of the psychological
challenge of enjoying seeing where you've been instead of where
you're going, the child is young; he can learn to appreciate it.
