In my earlier response about the U1 sized wheelchair batteries I mistakenly said that I wired them in PARALLEL. This is incorrect. They are wired in SERIES. Wiring them in Parallel would result in the same voltage (approx). By wiring in SERIES, you get twice the line voltage (12v).

Thanks Pensioner for pointing this out to me...
