Stock speakers in good condition actually don't sound too bad, but most of them are over the hill and consequently sound like sh*t.

I replaced mine with Cerwin Vega 4" (stock is 3.5", but the holes will accept 4") speakers, which dropped right in - no cutting and minimal adaptive concerns.

I did have to bend my door cranks, as I think you would have to do with any speakers that are non-stock. I removed the handles and put the bases in a vice. Then bent them out about 15 degrees. I then put the crank portion in the vice and bent the knob end back about 15 so that they didn't feel all catywampus when I turn them.

Anyway, works well. Sounds pretty good, too. The speakers were around $90.
