Modifying the vanagon to suit my needs is one of the most alluring qualities of owning it.

Having owned many new cars in my life, I have always been annoyed by the "factory" layout of things. Car makers must assume that we all enjoy the lack of storage space in vehicles. You either carry less than what you'd like, or carry it all and take a beating everytime you turn a corner or stop suddenly when an avalanche of stuff comes hurling your way. So as you can imagine, I am making use of the space in my van efficiently for storage. And considering how many extra parts I now have to carry around, I'll need it.

Besides, there is nothing that cannot be undone...I "undid" the factory's design and I can undo someone else's too.

This, of course, coming from someone who is currently changing things in his van as we speak. :) But yes, as others have suggested, it is being done properly.
