After close reading of the patent application and grant it works by destroying the magnetic property of one of the main parts. In other words, a strong magnetically charged permanent magnet is considered potential energy and when the device stops working the permanent magnet will be much weaker.

Remember, you just can't break the laws of Thermodynamics no matter how clever you are.
