Bob I don't think its that crazy. I bought my `87 Westy Camper and drove it back from east Texas to northern California. I had never seen the van before or taken it to a mechanic. A few things went wrong (flat tire, bad low air spare, and a wiper issue) but overall it was a great experience. The van runs great and has had no problems since. Make sure it has the proper tires all around and a decent spare.
