here's what "The Pocket Ref"* has to say..."the code is XXYY MMM999. The
XX is the manufacturer, the YY is the tire size. MMM is the optional
tire code and the 999 is the date of manufacture. For more details
request a copy of "Part 574 - Tire Code" from the U.S. Departmant of
Transportation."

If the last group in the serial number is a total of 3, then the tire was
made
in 99 and back. Of the 3, the 1st 2 are the week, the last is the year.
i.e. 269
= last week of June 1999.
If the last group is 4 numbers, 1st 2 are week, 2nd 2 are year. Should be
00 or
01.
